Three tab shingles are the way of the past. Believe it or not, many roofers still use them today. Architectural shingles are the best way to show off your home. We all know that curb appeal sells. Architectural shingles are dimensional shingles that display the best in new shingle colors and contact.

Three Tab Shingles

The "Tab" in the name refers to small cutouts along the lower edge of the shingle. Two cuts and the shingle has three tabs. There is zero dimensional thickness to this shingle and does not carry a good wind rating. 60mph max is what you will receive out of this shingle. Many roofs in Houston back in 2008 were destroyed because they had a three tab shingle.

Architectural Shingles

These beauties are the new standard in roofing installations. It's been said that they started back in the 1970's but they really didn't start mass producing them until the mid 80's. An architectural shingle can withstand 150mph winds! That's a category 4 hurricane.

These are laminated layered shingles that contain asphalt and fiberglass. The fiberglass binds the asphalt together keeps its integrity. An architectural shingle will stay waterproof for many years compared to a three tab shingle. They are the ideal shingles for any new roof today.
